Bend to Mend
Bend to Mend is a recently incorporated non-for profit organization established by high school and yoga teachers Anayra I. Calderon and Victoria Arvizu.
Prior to Bend to Bend, Inc. being established, Anayra collaborated with some of the yoga studios that she worked at to raise funds that would provide Thanksgiving meals to Jersey City families in need. More specifically, families of students from the high school where she taught literature. After three years of working with yoga studios as well as asking friends and family for donations, Thanksgiving meals expanded to gift cards at Christmas, collecting prom dresses for prom and now to creating Bend to Mend, Inc.
While the original fundraising efforts focused on William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City, NJ, through Bend to Mend, Inc., we look forward to expanding our reach into other inner city districts that suffer from the same economical hardships as Jersey City.
Their first expansion will include Hackensack High School, based in Hackensack, NJ, where Victoria Arvizu is a high school teacher. Through Bend to Mend, Inc. we hope to raise enough funds to feed families in need during the holidays and provide them with some basic needs.
As we expand, we would like to offer more services to the people we serve, such as offering yoga scholarships for people between the ages of 15-25, in order to spread the yoga message further.
